Bibliographic Guide

Style of referencing

There are several styles in use. The two most commonly used bibliographic styles are:

  • The Author-Date System (Harvard) - simpler, more concise style, widely used in the sciences
  • The Note System (footnote/endnote) - older, more formal style, used mainly in the humanities

The examples in this guide follow the Author-Date style which is to be used for all subjects EXCEPT History.

Students studying history at Years 10, 11 & 12 should follow examples given in the section Using the Note System.
